THE 1 Good Idea: A Bag For LIFE!
Designed for you, with a special message from us!
We put our heads together and thought about it for ages, and eventually , our idea was born!
Our biggest concern was soft plastic, and the biggest offender in the long list of soft plastics is the single use plastic bag.
Hundreds of thousands of plastic bags are manufactured each day, and a staggering 1 Trillion bags end up polluting our Planet each year!
46,000 plastic bags are recovered from the Ocean every DAY. The impact that plastic bags have on our Eco System is HUGE- so we wanted to make a difference to these statistics!
We are making our own plastic bag, from the sustainable material of NWPP (Non Woven Polypropylene) which is a product made from recycled hard plastics. It is sturdy, washable and practical for everyday use when heading to the Supermarket, and what's more, it will have our catchy bag slogan which was coined by one of our wonderful content creators, Meadhbh Dunne!

Our In-School Information Board
We set up a school information board for all of our school members and visitors to gain more knowledge and information about the damage that soft plastic is doing to our Environment. It has been a great centre point for people to go in our school to keep informed and see any progression and events happening in our campaign, as we also have information on our 1 Good Idea campaign displayed there too!
Making Headlines: Our SEAI 1 Good Idea was in The Tallaght Echo!
Working hard is paying off here at Glenasmole, as we got a mention in the Tallaght Echo about our SEAI 1 Good Idea campaign- FANCY THAT!
We were so happy that news of our campaign was mentioned in a paper that is distributed to 46,000 homes in the South Dublin area.
People will hopefully read about our work and go to our school page where they will find a link to our site and read about all of our hard work which we have documented here!
We were mentioned in their special feature "The School Around The Corner" in their paper issued on the 14th of February.

The Soft Plastic Pledge
In order to kick start our campaign and raise awareness, we started up a mini-mission! We decided that we would try to get the rest of the kids in our school on board and take a "Soft Plastic Pledge" to prevent people from having soft plastic packaging in their lunches where possible! If the participants were successful, they would obtain a badge with our campaign logo on it for their hard work!
We had a huge uptake in interest, with 100% of our school mates and teachers signing up to take the challenge, and we were delighted that during the week of the 25th-1st of March, 95% of the participants succeeded- RESULT!
Those who were unsuccessful were allowed to sign up to try again for the next week to make sure they got their #1smallchange badge!

Our "Junk Couture" Style Fashion Exhibition
To show people jussst how committed we are to the cause, we decided that we would host an eco- friendly event to raise awareness of our #1GoodIdea- our very own BAG FOR LIFE!
We have spent the past few weeks preparing costumes and fashion pieces to display to our parents on the final week before the Easter Holidays. We all brainstormed and agreed that, if we used products that would usually be thrown into the bin to highlight the alarming amount of rubbish we humans produce, our clothes would be doing the talking...
As well as that, we would make a lasting impression to our parents as well as serious fashion statement!

Our Bake Sale Fundraiser
So, we had the 1 Good Idea sorted, we planned our strategies and ways to raise awareness of the issue we wanted to highlight.
BUT!
We needed funds to help finance our brilliant idea! We were lucky enough to receive a small grant from the Local Enterprise Board to start up our "Clean Green Bag" Business, but we needed additional money to make up for purchasing our materials such as stencils and fabric paints and additional costs of the bags themselves!
As a result, we decided that a Bake Sale would be a fantastic way to bring our School Community together, advertise our 1 Good Idea further, and gather funds for our exciting project!
Our Bake Sale is set to take place on Thursday, the 14th of March- Hope to see you guys there- indulge in a sweet treat or two...or three...or more- it's all for a good cause after all!
