Comparing Sweden and Ireland
Here's some of our work we did in discovering the possibilities of sustainability and considered what sort of changes we could make for a better Ireland by just 1 good idea; REDUCING HOW MUCH SOFT PLASTIC WE USE IN OUR DAILY LIVES.
- We created posters to raise awareness of the lack of soft plastic recycling plants in Ireland.
- We highlighted the difficulty in finding clear guidelines of recycling cling film and tin foil.
- We chose to write to our waste management providers, Repak, to ask for their opinion on Ireland's recycling facilities and their thoughts on the issues we found in their guidelines for schools.
- We wrote to Minister Bruton, Minister for the Environment, for his opinion on the soft plastic crisis which Ireland appears to have on its hands.
- We continued to draw inspiration from Sweden's waste management model in our campaign, and further researched problems which waste management companies face in Ireland.
DESCISION TIME
We finally decided as a whole class group that in order to make people aware of the issues of the regular use of soft plastics, we should conduct a survey highlighting the facts of the matter. The results of the survey were surprising in many ways; mostly positive, which we were thankful for!
REACHING OUTReaching out to Repak
We decided to reach out to Repak about it's recycling posters that we have as recycling guides in our school; we didn't feel that they helped us in deciding whether tin foil and cling film went in the general waste bin or the recycling bin. |
